General Information About Hepcinat LP
Hepcinat-LP is an antiviral medication that may be used to treat hepatitis C infections in adults. This drug is composed of 2 active ingredients: 90mg of ledipasvir, an inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A (NS5A) replication complex, and 400mg of sofosbuvir, a uridine monophosphate analog inhibitor of HCV polymerase NS5B.
If you have a chronic hepatitis C infection, take 1 tablet once daily, with or without food. The duration of your treatment will vary depending on the severity of your condition. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of your next scheduled dosage, do not double your dose. Do not change your dose without discussing it with your doctor.
If you are allergic to ledipasvir or sofosbuvir, do not use Hepcinat-LP. Pregnant individuals should not use this medication in combination with ribavirin.
During the course of this treatment, you may experience side effects such as:
- And drowsiness.
For a full list of side effects, consult your doctor or the provided product pamphlet. Any adverse effects should be reported to your doctor. If these side effects persist or worsen, seek medical attention.
In certain cases, patients may be at risk of developing health complications during this treatment. For example, cases of symptomatic bradycardia are common when Hepcinat-LP is co-administered with amiodarone. This antiarrhythmic medication, used to treat and prevent irregular heartbeats, can interact with the components of Hepcinat-LP to cause symptomatic bradycardia, fatal cases of cardiac arrests, and even cases requiring pacemaker intervention. Additionally, patients who are on beta-blockers, those with existing chronic liver disease, and those with cardiac disorders are at a higher risk of developing symptomatic bradycardia while using this drug.
There are 2 active ingredients in this medication, each with their own interactions. Some of the drugs that interact with Hepcinat-LP are:
- Atripla (a medication which contains efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir);
- Acid-reducing agents;
- Anticonvulsants (e.g. carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital);
- And antibiotics (e.g. rifampin, rifabutin, and rifapentine).
Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking before using Hepcinat-LP.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is currently no adequate research on the safety and efficacy of using ledipasvir and sofosbuvir during pregnancy. Additionally, there is no information regarding whether this drug is excreted via human breast milk. As such, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or lactating, inform your doctor before proceeding with this treatment.
If you have accidentally overdosed, seek medical attention immediately to avoid any serious adverse effects. To prevent overdosage, carefully follow the treatment guidelines provided by your doctor. Additionally, keep Hepcinat-LP out of the reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion. Do not increase or decrease your dose unless instructed by a doctor.
